SEASONAL EVENTS FOR FAMILIES
Advent And Lent
During the four weeks before Christmas and the six weeks before Easter, we observe Advent and Lent using special devotions for home study and prayer. Also during Advent, we set aside a special Supper Church evening for a "Walk Through the Nativity Story." Parents and children tour the sanctuary, choir loft, and nearby areas, pausing to recognize each member of a Nativity scene: shepherds, wise men, Mary, Joseph, Baby Jesus, and the angel.
Children Present at Worship
Each Sunday morning in the narthex, St. Andrew's volunteers on the Children's Welcome Team are ready to receive children with age-appropriate activities during the worship service. Children in attendance are invited to ring the bell to begin worship and to light the Christ candle.
Service To the Community
As our congregation is in transition, we are hopeful that we will be return to our once robust multi-generational activities. In the past, the Lighthouse class painted and later maintained the supply of books at a Little Free Library (crafted by a member of the congregation) in Multnomah Village. Once or twice a year, the children also hosted the after-service coffee hour with parent support.
While we anticipate a return to some of the activities we enjoyed with children in our midst, we continue to serve the community (locally and globally) through mission projects such as One Great Hour of Sharing, the Cuba Mission, Heifer International, and various initiatives that benefit Neighborhood House Free Food Market.
