Cuba Mission

St. Andrew's Cuba Mission

St. Andrew's Cuba Mission

In 2010, St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church established a covenant partnership with the Presbyterian Church in Santa Clara, Cuba. This partnership is part of a long-standing partnership established between the Presbytery of the Cascades, of which St. Andrew's is a member, and the Central Presbytery of Cuba, of which Santa Clara is a member. These partnerships are for the purposes of strengthening the Cuban Presbyterian Church which experienced great persecution until 1990, and which has endured much economic hardship. An equally important goal is peacemaking between the two churches whose respective countries regard each other as enemies.

In March of 2010 and March of 2012, groups St.Andrew’s members, led by Rev. Dr. Martha Page Greene, Parish Associate, traveled to Cuba to provide financial support, bring medicines and other urgently needed supplies, develop relationships with the people of Santa Clara, and to do a work project. For a week, each group worked on repairing and painting part of the church property. Those who went discovered that they received many spiritual riches by being with the community of faith in Santa Clara.

In March of 2011, St. Andrews received the sad news that the vibrant young pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Santa Clara was killed in an auto accident. Rev. Martha Page Greene and Elder Jo Ann Tower journeyed to Cuba to provide comfort, carry our mission allocation to the church, and to preside in a service in memory of Rev. Turcaz.

Every two years, St. Andrew's puts on an auction/dinner to raise monies for the Cuba mission.  Volunteers are needed to plan, procure items, cook, serve and host the dinner and provide business office support for the auction.

A group trip to Cuba is currently being planned. Any interested person who would like to participate in the Cuba mission in any way should contact Rev. Martha Greene at mpgrmg@hotmail.com.
